📥Banking: Surplus solar units exported to TPSODL grid are credited to your account — like depositing electricity into a bank.
📤Settlement: Night-time consumption first draws from banked units. You pay only for the net difference (Import − Export).
🔄Carry Forward: Surplus units carry over month-to-month. Annual settlement (March 31) pays remaining surplus at ₹3.28/unit (APPC rate FY 24-25).

📐 How it's calculated: Usage during active generation hours draws directly from solar (100% efficient). Usage during non-generation hours (night/cloudy) draws from banked units with 10% banking loss (wheeling/transmission charges). Net billable = max(0, consumption − direct_use − banked_after_loss). Adjust the slider to match your consumption pattern.
📊 TPSODL Tariff Slabs FY 2024-25
SlabUnitsRateYour Cost
Slab 10 – 50₹3.00₹150
Slab 251 – 200₹4.80₹720
Slab 3201 – 400₹5.80₹290
Slab 4401+₹6.20₹0
Total Energy Charge ₹1,160
💡 Fixed charges are unavoidable: ₹20/kW/month (₹40 for 2kW) + ₹60 smart meter rent = ₹100 minimum bill even at net-zero. Electricity Duty 4% applies on total.
🚫 Common misconception: You cannot simply export all solar units and get paid. TPSODL requires you to consume at least 90% of your generation before any surplus qualifies for payout. Residual surplus (if any) is paid at just ~₹2.50/unit (APPC rate), not the retail tariff of ₹4-6/unit. Solar is for self-consumption savings, not for selling electricity.

🏛️ PM Surya Ghar (Central): ₹30,000/kW for first 2kW = ₹60,000.
Odisha State Subsidy: Additional ~₹40,000+ for ≤3kW systems.
Combined subsidy for 2kW: >₹1,00,000. Gross cost ~₹1.5L → Net investment ~₹45-50K only.
📈 Why payback is under 2 years: With 250+ units/month consumption, annual savings exceed ₹25K-30K. At a net investment of ~₹48K, the system pays for itself in 1.5 – 2 years. After that, it's 23+ years of essentially free electricity. Tariff escalation (~5%/yr) makes future savings even higher.
